While heavily covered in other reviews on virtually all LGBT travel sites that talk about Thailand, we would be remiss if we did not mention the famous Telephone Bar on Bangkok’s Silom Soi 4.
This is so because it is one of the oldest and best gay bars in the city. It is the perfect place for “pre-drinks” before a night at DJ Station and one of the best people-watching bars in the city. Soi 4 is packed with gay bars, and the sidewalk seating at Telephone Bar is a great perch for all you birds that enjoy this. Open from 6 PM to 2 AM, it is always packed with “Farang” (Western foreigners) and locals that want to meet you. While the upstairs restaurant is OK for the food, it is the Karaoke event that starts about 10:30 every night that is the draw up there.
Most of the singers are in drag and really quite good, it is sooo much fun! The surprise at Telephone Bar is that it has opened up over the past few years to be very inclusive of one’s female friends of any orientation- in the true spirit of the inclusive freedom of gays in Thailand. Safe late night, the cheap prices and relaxed sit-down and party atmosphere make this a must-go place for the LGBT traveller to Bangkok.
